Oh, to be pregnant again!

Well to say this baby was a surprise is a total understatement! After three years of waiting and hoping we sold or gave most of our baby things away before we moved into our house. When another year went by I figured we were for sure done and got rid of the rest. Wouldn't you know it SURPRISE, we got pregnant! It's been 4 years since I was faced with some of the challenges that come with carrying and growing a baby so in an effort to help me be a little more positive, here is a tribute to the joys of being pregnant and all the grandness that comes with it.

Puking Quotes from my kids...
  • As B is running from the room "Oh, no! I just can't listen to that anymore!"
  • As she covers her ears "Mommy are you done yet"? Me "Can't tell"! B "Ugh! Well when are you going to be done"? Me "Five more months"!
  • E as he is talking to a friend on the phone "I probably can't go because my mom will be sick"!
  • E as he reports on his school day "We had to journal about someone who does a lot of service in our lives and I decided to do Daddy because he takes me to school". (note: Josh has had to take E to school a couple of times a week due to morning vomit rounds)

Favorite Things to Regurgitate... as long as I'm hydrated (note: if not hydrated the experience becomes more like a cat hacking up a fur ball)

  • Bread ~ because when it comes out your nose you get that warm bread smell for a at least 20 minutes!
  • Soup ~ because it is super easy to get up/out and you get to reenact horror movies where people projectile!
  • Eggs ~ they are pretty soft and softness when you vomit often is definitely a key factor!
  • Ewwww I was just going to say soft noodles but just the thought of it made me gag so it has to be removed from the list!

Most Heinous things to vomit

  • Anything spicy! Burning all the way up and out is not happy!
  • Chicken that has not been properly chewed!
  • Peppers
  • Acidic things like pickles
  • Lunch meat! I still can't eat it and that was from 2 months ago!

I will add more to this list but for right now...I think this topic is making me queasy!

Summer of 2010 - June thru August

Josh and I love to work on projects together...even though neither one of us have really ever done it before we figure it out together and it makes for a great date! Usually it starts with an idea like "Hey wouldn't it be great if mowing the lawn didn't take 2 hours! Why don't we rip out the grass and put in a BBQ area?"

I will add more pictures of our yard as things defrost and the plants start to grow again! Until then here are the before and after pictures.

This is what the backyard looked like when we bought it. We decided to wait one year to see what everything was before we changed anything. There is garden (bottom right), grape vines, an apple tree, a peach tree, and TONS of grass.

This is the other side of the backyard. We couldn't really get the grass to grow under the deck so ...that was the first thing to go!

Josh's parents live in Idaho and introduced us to using rock harvested out of the local canyon to build floors. We found someone willing to allow us to take the rock we needed without charging us for it! Hooray! Then it was a matter of getting broken bags of cement from Home Depot for less than $1.00 a bag and doing a little bit of work at a time (the YW even got to help with some of the work for an activity night!). We have two flower beds and a place to hang our hammocks from Mexico. I'll see if I can get a good picture of it and then post it a bit later.

Once we got the patio finished we moved on to the other side of the yard by the fence.

We ripped out a ton of grass, the apple tree which basically tipped over on its own, and the garden area that had been there before. We put the trampoline where the garden was, made another rock patio for a BBQ area, and are planning to add a smaller square foot/lasagna garden over by the peach tree. Then we filled in the other areas with bark and stepping stones!

Here is the semi finished rock patio/BBQ area! Hopefully this year we will get to add the BBQ/counter part. I really want to create something out of some kind of sheet metal but we'll have to see about that. We planted hybrid willow trees as a screen all along our fence line since we can see into....even though we don't look...all the neighbor's yards and the willows grow super fast (that they were free helped too). In fact a few of them at 1 year are already poking up above the white fence you see in the picture. We then added a pergola with four flower boxes and two benches for more outdoor seating when we have parties!

It is still a work in progress. Each week I save my change from groceries so that I can buy a couple of pieces of cinder block for the back wall. My plan is to build it up so it is the same height and then stucco the wall and paint a Tuscany mural on it...or something like that. The top of the wall has creeping time growing in it so that will add to the Tuscany feeling. We also will be adding more flowers this year and helping the grass be more healthy. I did a test to see how much nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus were in the ground for my lawn to feed on and everything was great except Nitrogen! It was at 0! Yikes! I think that explains why it has so many issues!

Before we even began this project we redid our front yard and made it look more like the place we had in Sandy! I loved that yard! But I'm going to wait on those pictures so the Rose of Sharon hedge has a chance to grow in more.

Summer of 2010 ~ August

August I was introduced to a website where some very fabulous ladies use spray paint to redo furniture! Love that idea, but I'm not so sure we were prepared for how much spray paint it would take!
We picked up this bookcase at a sale the state was having to get rid of their old furniture. I think at most it was $10.00 which was great because it is really well made! It came with a back and shelves but we removed those already. It also had some holes (about 1 1/2 - 2 inches in diameter) in the side that were taken out to run wires and things like that.
We used the rest of our wallpaper from our kitchen redo in Sandy and placed that on the back of the bookcase to cover some of the holes.

Then we patched the holes and started spraying!

Here is the finished product! I think it took 2-3 cans of primer and 3-4 cans of color. Once that dried we put an antique glaze on it and and put it in our front room! I love the color it adds.

Summer of 2010 ~ July

Every year I have to visit my local "Happy Place" for their
Wildflower Festival! It is so pretty!
Tons of wildflowers bloom in late July up at Alta

As part of our 10 year anniversary we decided to celebrate all year and visit some of our favorite spots throughout our time together. This one is Bridal Veil Falls in Provo.

4th of July T-shirts with Grandma Sally & Grandpa Scott!

This is our favorite spot up Provo Canyon. There used to be a huge rock we would climb up and hang out on but it somehow disappeared. I miss that rock!

Summer of 2010 ~ May

May was a wonderful month for our family because we had the opportunity to fly to Mexico and spend 6 days and 5 nights at an all inclusive resort called Barcelo Maya Beach Resort. It was unlike anything we had ever done before! In fact B loved it so much she asked if we could go back for her birthday!
This was taken at Xel Ha an open sea aquarium!

This is Tulum!

Tulum again!

Here is the real reason we were here! Ryan and Angelica were married! We love, love, love her and are so excited they finally tied the knot!

Elvis Fest 2011

Okay I know it's kind of funny but I've wanted to have an Elvis Christmas tree...of my own for several years now and I finally got it all together this year, thanks to my wonderful friends Lisa and Meri and cute/very supportive husband Josh! I love it so much I decided to leave it up for my Elvis Fest 2011 celebrating the birth of Elvis, which just happens to be January 8!
I should have gotten a better picture of the white paper because it is a drawling of Elvis B made for me! My kids are also super supportive of my addiction!!!!
The ornament that looks like a jukebox actually has Elvis singing!

The oval ornament of Elivs all wrapped up ina present plays one of his songs too!

The postcard above was actually purchased in Memphis!!!! Thanks Meri!

The tail on the teddy bear turns a music box inside and plays an Elvis song too!

The nutcracker has a guitar on the back, the Elvis in red lights flashes and plays music and the snowglobe is from Memphis!!!!
